Arthur was born in Kensington, London in April 1878. His father, John, was a builder and his mother’s name was Maria.
At the time of the 1901 census Arthur was living with his parents and siblings, Edwin, Percy and Frank, and a servant in Putney. He was now 22 years old and a carpenter.
In 1904 he married Minnie Harrison at St Mary Mortimer Church in Berkshire and they settled into their new home at 9 Tamworth Park, Mitcham.
They had three children, John, Mary and Kathleen.
John enlisted in Wimbledon and joined the West Kent Regiment service number 17257 before transferring to the 1st Battalion of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, number 41046.
He was reported missing, presumed killed 19 May 1917 and is commemorated on the Arras memorial.
