Walter was the second son of Harry Siviour, a Snuff Grinder, and his wife Dora. He was born in Mitcham in 1899 and baptised at the Parish Church of Saint Peter and Paul on 4 August 1899. His elder brother was called Frank and he had younger siblings Gilbert, Roland and Rose.
At the time of the 1901 census they were all living at 24 Church Street, Mitcham, along with Harry Jeal who worked on the railway and boarded with them.
By 1911, Walter, Roland and Rose were still living with their parents but the family had moved to 1 Sunnyside Villas, Lower Green, Mitcham. Walter was a Grocer’s Assistant.
He married Ellen Quimby in the summer of 1914 and they had two daughters, Rose and Gwendoline. They were living at 1 Elliston House, Graham Avenue, Mitcham at the time of Walter’s death.
Walter enlisted in 1914 and joined the Royal Army Medical Corps as a Private, number 76744. He was killed in action on 8 June 1917 and is commemorated on the Menin Gate in Ypres and in St Mark’s Church, Mitcham,
