Additional Information
Albert was born c. 1899 and baptised in St Peter and St Paul Parish Church, Mitcham on 2 July 1899. His father, also Albert, was a Flower Seller, working for himself and mother, Edith cared for Albert and his two older sisters. The family lived at Elm Cottages, Commonside East, Mitcham.
The next ten years were hard for the family as by the 1911 census, Albert Snr, Albert Jn and his sister Daisy were living with relatives at 7 Spencer Road. Albert Snr made several mistakes on the census form which indicate that he and Edith had six children, three of whom died and that Edith had also died. Albert’s eldest sister, also called Edith, was now in service.
Albert Ernest enlisted at Chelsea and joined the Leicestershire Regiment as a Private number 42075.
He died of wounds on 3 June 1918 and is buried in St Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen and commemorated in St Mark’s Church, Mitcham
