George Jnr was George and Louisa’s third child. His older siblings, Mark and Louie and the younger ones, Samuel, Edith and Lily were living at 40 Gladstone Road the time of the 1901 census but by 1911 they had moved to 2 Oakley Cottages, Commonside East, Mitcham.

In 1911 George was working as a confectioner in a chocolate making factory.

In the autumn of 1915 he married Ada and they settled in Tooting.

On 3 November 1915 he enlisted at Tooting and joined the 9th Battalion of the Suffolk Regiment as a Private. He was soon promoted to Lance Corporal and was reported “Wounded and Missing” on the Casualty list issued by the War Office in November 1916. Later he was recorded as “Killed in Action” on 3 November 1916 and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial and in St Mark’s Church, Mitcham.
