George was born in Battersea on 12th January 1878 and baptised at St. Peter in Battersea on 17th February that same year. He was the son of Henry and Rosetta ( nee Burry). His parents had married in October 1870 and were living at 156 Lavender Road. George’s father Henry worked first as a dustman then as a labourer.

By 1881 the family were now living at number 152 Lavender Road and George aged three now had two brothers: William and James. By 1891 the family were still at the same address and George had a further two siblings: Ada and Albert .

On 21st May 1899 George married Kitty Laura Harms in Battersea and by 1901 was living at 30 Benham Street then moved to 17 Verona Street. George worked as a labourer then as a House painter.

George's father Henry died on 24 July 1906. He had been suffering from jaundice and a post-mortem at the time showed he died from a Carcinoma of the Gall Bladder and growths on the liver.

By 1911 George aged 34 and Kitty aged 32 had moved back to Benham Street and were living in three rooms at number 8. They had three children: Emily 9, Kitty 7 and George 2. Of five children born to them two had died. They had been married for 11 years and were sharing the house with one other family.

The couple had two more children: Charlie born in 1912 and William in 1915 when the family were residing at 18 Stockwood Street, Plough Road.

George enlisted on 7th January 1915 as a Private with the East Kent Regiment and given the service number 5419. He only served for 180 days before he was discharged on 5th July 1915. It was stated on his service records that he would not likely become an efficient soldier on medical grounds.

They couple had one further child called Lillian who was born in 1918 .

George died on 27th January 1919 aged 41. The reason for his death is unknown. He was buried in Morden cemetery; Garth Road and his name also appears on a stone memorial in the churchyard.
