John was born in Wandsworth in c. 1899. His father, also John, was a Foreman for a Gas Manufacturer. His mother’s name was Emily Grace and he had two younger siblings, Grace and Edward. The family lived at 45 Wolseley Avenue Wimbledon Park.
John enlisted at Kingston on Thames and joined the 9th Battalion of the Norfolk Regiment.
He was 19 years old when he was killed in action and he is commemorated on the Vis-en-Artois Memorial and in St Luke’s Church, Wimbledon Park.
