Eric was born in Ontario, Canada on 3 October 1892.
The 1901 Canadian census shows him living with his Grandfather, William Colace, his mother Elizabeth Goldie and his two siblings Marion (?Merion) and William in Ontario.
In 1910 Elizabeth bought him to England on the SS Minneapolis, arriving on 5 April and by the 1911 census, Elizabeth and her three children were living with Arthur Barrè Darkwood Goldie at 134 Clonmore Street, Southfields.
Immediately after arriving in England, Eric became an apprentice on the Railway, signing up on 2 May 1910 and he stayed there, working at Camden and Willesdon until he left on 4 September 1914 to join the Army.
Eric joined up and was a Private in the 3rd Battalion of the City of London Regiment (Royal Fusiliers). He served in Egypt but was in Turkey when he was killed in action on 28 November 1915. His pension went to his mother.
He is commemorated on the Helles Memorial and in St Luke’s Church.
