Additional Information
John was born in October 1894 and baptised on 20 January 1895 at Christchurch, Battersea. The family were living at 4 Strathbone Road and his father, Archer Townend Kempe-Roberts was a motor cycle/cycle repair man and welder. His mother’s name was Alice Effingham.
John had two younger sisters, Iris and Dorothy.
The family were living in South Hammersmith in 1901 and Tolworth in 1911. The 1911 census shows 16 year old John as being a Timber Agent Clerk.
John joined the 50th Squadron of the Royal Flying Corps and was killed in action on 10 March 1918. He is commemorated on the Hollybrook Memorial in Southhampton and in St Luke’s Church, Wimbledon Park.
While no obvious connection to Wimbledon Park could be found, it is unlikely that there was another J A C Kempe-Roberts in the RAF at that time.
