George Joseph who was born in January 1896 was the second child of Emily and Joseph Senyard, His mother 27-year-old Emily Amelia Matthews had married 30-year-old Joseph Senyard who was employed as a house decorator at St Paul’s Church at St Mary’s Newington on the 1st of April 1893.

According to the 1901 Census, Emily and Joseph resided at 74 Barmouth Road with their 3 children. Joseph was now employed as a journey man grainer.

By 1911, The Senyard family resided at 44 Bassingham Road in Wandsworth, Emily and Joseph had been married for 18 years and their 3 children had survived and still lived with their parents. George Joseph who was now 15 years old does not have an occupation. Very little information exists about his early life and career.

George Joseph’s service record is not available through Ancestry, he enlisted in Camden Town as a private in the London Regiment and died of his wounds at the Battle of the Somme on the 2nd 0ctober 1916. George Joseph was buried at Becourt Military Cemetery.

According to the 1918 Electoral Register, Emily and Joseph were residing at 71 Garden Avenue in Mitcham.
