Albert Edward who was born on the 28th of July 1898 was the second child of Sarah Ann Thomas and Albert Edward Snowden. His parent had married during the third quarter of 1895 in Lambeth Surrey. His father, also known as Albert Edward, according to the 1891 Census was employed as a print compositor.
The 1901 Census reveals that 28-year-old Albert Edward with his wife and two children residing in Lambeth next door to his brother 34-year-old Charles, who was also employed in the printing trade.
Four-year-old Albert attended Broadwater School on the 25th of August 1902 with his elder sister Ivy, school records reveal that the Snowden family living at 48 Garratt Lane in Tooting. Both children left the school after only one term on the 13th of January 1905.
According to the 1911 Census, the Snowden family had moved to 30 Bertal Road in Tooting in a 5-room house with 28-year-old Emily Clifton, a boarder a music teacher. Twelve-year-old Albert Edward was revealed to be that of a school milk boy. His parents had been married for 15 years, with four of their six children surviving infancy. His father Albert was still employed in the printing trade while Sarah Ann was employed as a cleaner at a local County Council School.
The 1912 Electoral register reveals that the Snowden family continued to reside at 30 Bertal Road in Tooting.
Albert Edward enlisted in the 2nd Bn Suffolk Regiment as a private in Wimbledon and was killed in action on the 30th of August 1918 in France. He was buried at Ecoust-st Mien British Cemetery and is remembered on the Mitcham War Memorial.
