Stanley was born in Camberwell in January 1886. His father Edward was a Distillers Manager, his mother’s name was Grace, he had an older sister, Ethel, and two younger sisters, Dorothy and Marguerite. The family lived at 115 Grosvenor Road, Hanover Square.
His father died in 1906 and, at the time of the 1911 census, the family were living at 31 Marlborough Road, Wimbledon. Stanley was a Stockbroker’s Clerk.
His mother died in 1913.
By 1914 Stanley had moved to 294 Durnsford Road and he married Jessie Amy Clack at St Luke’s Church, Wimbledon Park on 31 March 1914. They had a son Thomas who was born on 12 November 1914.
He enlisted and jointed the 145 Siege Bty Royal Garrison Artillery as a Gunner and was killed in action on the Somme on 9 December 1916. He is buried in the Bazentin-le-Petit Military Cemetery in Picardie and commemorated in St Luke’s Church.
After his death, Jessie and Thomas moved to Brighton.
