Frederick George Wheatcroft was born in Derbyshire in c. 1883. His parents, James and Mary, had six children and Frederick grew up in Alfreton with older brothers William Garriet, Samuel and Arthur and younger sisters Ethel and Gertrude.
He became a teacher and by the 1911 census he was boarding in Fulham and on 20 July 1912 he married Susan Jessie Jobson in St Mark’s Church, Swindon. The next address we have is 22 Marlborough Road, Wimbledon Park from the Probate Register.
Frederick became a 2nd Lieutenant in the 5th Battalion of the East Surrey Regiment and was wounded in November 1917. He died of his wounds on 26 November 1917 and is buried in Anneux British Cemetery. He left his wife comfortably off with £1546 3s 11d.
