Albert was born in Chelsea and baptised in St Simon Zelotes Church on 8 July 1894. By the 1911 census, his family were living at 12 The Crescent, Wimbledon Park. Albert had an older brother, Everard and two younger sisters Edith and Mildred. His father was a Law Clerk in a firm of solicitors and by 1911 Arthur was a clerk at a Drapers. His mother’s name was Sarah.

Aged only 18, Arthur emigrated to Canada. He travelled on the Empress of Ireland from Liverpool and landed there on 5 July 1912.

Arthur enlisted in Canada on 4 January 1916. He was 21 years 8months old, 5ft 10ins tall with a dark complexion, dark hair and brown eyes. He joined the 187th Battalion of the Canadian Regiment.
On 30 July 1916 he was admitted to the Scaree Camp Hospital with suspected measles but was quickly transferred to Calgary General Hospital and died on 9 August 1916 of typhoid.
He was buried in the Union Cemetery, Calgary. His headstone was inscribed with the words “Greatly beloved and deeply mourned” and photos of the gravestone and the grave and surroundings were sent to his family in Wimbledon Park.

He is commemorated in St Luke’s Church, Wimbledon Park.
