George was the eldest son of Annie Marion Smith and James Adams, his parents had met and married on the 14th of April 1898 at the parish church in Stockwell, after their marriage, the couple resided at 2 Dalyell Road in Stockwell. James Alfred was employed as a railway porter.

George was baptised on the 5th of February 1899 at St Andrews Church in Stockwell. His brother Harry James was baptised at the same church a year later.

The 1901 Census reveals that the Adams family still living at the same address. The baptismal certificate of his brother Joseph Richard on the 15th of September in 1901 reveals that his father James was now employed as a labourer.

The baptismal records for George’s sister Lilian Grace on the 5th of February 1908 reveals that the Adams family had moved to 30 Henry Street in Vauxhall, Lambeth.
St Paul’s Church records show that George’s younger brother Frederick John was baptised on the 11th of July 1908, by then the Adams family were living at 5 Alders Cottages Cumberland place in Brixton.

The Adams family continued to reside at 5 Alders Cottage in Brixton according to the 1911 Census. James Alfred was employed as a brewer’s labourer according to the baptismal record of his son William Edward on the 30th of April 1911. The 1911 Census reveals that Ann Marian and James Alfred had been married for 13 years and that the couple had 8 children, who were alive and well living in the 4 rooms of 5 Alders Cottage with their 2 boarders.

George’s service record is not available through Ancestry. He enlisted as a private in the 7th battalion of the Royal Norfolk Regiment and was awarded the Military Medal. Corporal George Alfred Adams died on the 23rd of March 1920 in the 4th London General Hospital at Denmark Hill in London. He was buried at Streatham Park Cemetery.
