Additional Information
Robert was born in Newington, London on 23 February 1895. His father, Alfred, was a sorter for the Post Office and his mother’s name was Letitia nee Bowman. Robert had three older siblings Alfred, Annie and Frederick and they all lived at 34 Reedworth Street, Lambeth at the time of the 1901 census.
By 1911 they had moved to 36 Tabert Street East Dulwich and 17 year old Robert was now a Telephone Clerk. He went on to become a Chemist’s assistant by the time he enlisted in 1915. He was 5ft 8.5ins tall, weighed 114lbs and joined the RAMC as a Private.
He was killed on 19 July 1916 after being run over by a motor lorry. He was admitted to the 4th London Hospital with multiple injuries and died just two hours later.
He was buried in Streatham Park Cemetery. By this time the family had moved to 79 Garden Avenue Mitcham
