Daniel was born in 1883 in Newington, London and baptised on 5 November in St John the Evangelist Church. His father John was described as an Engineer/Labourer. His mother’s name was Charlotte and the family lived in Orb Street, Newington.
Daniel was the second son, his older brother was called John and they had younger siblings James, Thomas, Charlotte, William and Caroline.
On 3 January 1904, John married Rosina Elizabeth Maynard in the Church of St Andrew, Newington and by the 1911 census he was an Export Packer and they were living in a 2 roomed house at 17 Barlow Street, Walworth with their children Thomas and Albert. Two more children, Rosina and John, were born in the following few years.
During the First World War, Daniel worked in the Army Pay Corps. Very little is known about his Army career but he died in the 4th London Hospital on 4 November 1918 and is commemorated on Screen wall 9.10699 of the Streatham Park Cemetery.
