Albert who was the eldest son of Charles and Elizabeth Aldred. His 21-year-old father Charles Arthur, a labourer, by occupation, married 20-year-old Elizabeth Jane Binfield on the 4th of February 1888 at the Parish church St Thomas on the Bourne in Surrey.
The 1891 Census reveals that Charles and Elizabeth had 2 children, 2-year-old Albert and two-month Emily. Residing with the Aldred family was Elizabeth’s sister, Margaret and her one-year-old son.
According to the 1901 Census, the Aldred family continued to live in Middle Bourne, 34-year-old Charles had changed his occupation from agricultural labourer and was now employed as a bricklayer. Twelve-year-old Albert was still at school with his younger siblings.
Naval records reveal that Albert enlisted on the 25th of 0ctober 1906 for a period between 5 to 7 years. According to Enlistment records, he was 5ft and 4 1/4 inches tall, he had brown hair grey eyes and a fresh complexion. And a scar at the base of his left thumb.
Albert’s first ship was HMS Nelson in 1906 before serving as a stoker on Revenge in 1907, Victory and Good Hope then back to Victory before transferring on the 28th of August 1911.
Albert married twenty-four-year-old Violet May Stacy on the 19th of February 1910 at St Peter’s Church in Wrecclesham, Surrey, At the time of their marriage, the couple resided at Short Heath.
According to the 1911 Census, twenty-two-year-old Albert was serving as a stoker, first class aboard torpedo boat ‘034’

Naval records reveal that Albert was killed in action in the North Sea, while serving aboard submarine E.5 on the 11th of March 1916. His body was never recovered and was buried at sea.
