Additional Information

William was born in Pimlico on 9 January 1887 to Jane (nee Higgs) and Thomas Nicholson. Thomas was a labourer and later became a Carman. William had an older sister Alice and a younger brother Thomas.
The family lived in Pimlico throughout William’s life and after his marriage on 8 June 1919 in St John the Evangelist Church, Pimlico, he and his new wife Mary Anne (nee King) set up home at 4 Effingham Street, Pimlico.
William enlisted and joined the Royal Rifle Brigade serving in the 1st, 16th and 4th Battalions first as a Private and then as a Corporal. He was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal, but no details of the award are currently available. After discharge he became a general labourer for the HMOW in South Kensington, according to the 1921 census.
William died on 6 July 1921, leaving his wife with a young son, William Joseph, aged about 1 and a half.
He is buried in Streatham Park Cemetery
