Additional Information
Henry was born in West Bromwich during the summer of 1888. His father Thomas was a Painter/Labourer and his mother’s name was Emma. He had four siblings, Harry, Annie, David and Emma. After his mother’s death in 1905, the family moved to London and in 1907 they were living in Garden Cottages, Battersea.
In 1907, Henry, now working as a Carman, married the girl next door, Caroline Lucy Macrow in St John’s Church, Battersea. Four children, Henry, Caroline, Thomas and Florence are shown on Henry’s Pension Records but a fifth child, Albert, was born just two months before Henry’s death. The family home was at 38 Sloane Avenue, Chelsea.
Henry joined the Army shortly after the start of the war and was employed as a Driver in the Royal Field Artillery. He served in France but was sent home, probably wounded and died at home on 5 November 1916. He is buried in Streatham Park Cemetery.
