Albert was born in 1892 and baptised in St John the Evangelist Church in Walworth on 10 May 1892. His father, also Albert, was a glass bottle blower. Albert Snr and his wife Sarah had eight children and four of them sadly died very young. Albert Jnr grew up with younger siblings Emma, Martha and Charles. In 1901 they lived in Camberwell but by 1911 they had moved to Lambeth.
Albert Jnr also trained as a glass blower. When he was 20 he married 18 year old Charlotte Elizabeth Holtum in St Luke’s Church, Bermondsey.
He attested on 31 May 1916 and was mobilised on 7 August. Their address was 46 Church Street Clapham and records show that Albert was 5ft 2ins tall. He was posted on 8 August; declared an absentee on 26 May 1917 and rejoined his unit on 2 June 1917.
He was discharged on 18 August 1917 “Not likely to become an efficient soldier” due to tuberculosis.
He died on 29 November 1920 and is buried in Streatham Park Cemetery.
