Additional Information

Finley was born in Walworth on 3 December 1882 and baptised in St Andrew’s Church, Holborn on 26 September 1884. His parents, William, an engineer, and Emily recorded Finley and younger sisters Emily, Mary and Bertha on the 1891 census. He attended Comber Road School from 10 October 1892.
By the 1901 census, Finley had left home and was serving in the navy in Gibraltar.
His naval service dated from 13 January 1899 and he served on many different ships, including HMS Goshawk at the Battle of Jutland. He was discharged on 28 January 1917 and admitted to Donns Sanatorium in Sutton, where he died on 15 March 1917.
He is buried in Streatham Park Cemetery and left his effects of £288 17s to his sister Bertha.

There is a discrepancy regarding the spelling of Springall/Springhall but Springall would appear to be correct despite CWGC records showing Springhall.
