Additional Information
Ernest was a London lad. He was born on 21 June 1892 and baptised on 12 July 1892 in St John the Evangelist Church, Waterloo. His father, also Ernest, was a Glass Cutter. He died in 1895, the same year as Ernest Jnr’s sister, Martha was born. Their mother was also called Martha nee Avery.
The 1901 census shows that Ernest was living with his paternal grandparents but there is no mention of either his mother or his sister.
In 1909 Ernest was a Farrier and he married the girl next door, Ada Pamment. They raised three children, Susannah, Martha and Robert (known as Bobby).
Ernest enlisted and joined the Royal Field Artillery as a Driver. He died on 19 August 1918 and is commemorated in Streatham Park Cemetery. At the time of his death his family were living at 50 Trent Road, Battersea SW2.
