Joseph was born in 1866 and very little information can be found about his early life. He married Lola in Lambeth in 1918 and they had one son, Edward.
He enlisted on 1 January 1918 and records show that he was 5ft 5½ins tall and worked as a silk merchant. He was sent to France but returned to the UK in April 1918 due to ill health and was sent to the Supply Branch to work as a Clerk. His health further deteriorated and he was discharged as not physically fit for service on 1 June 1918.
He lived in Brixton, though his registered address was in South Wales, and died on 28 August 1920.
Lola remarried and lived in Stockwell.
