Additional Information
Arthur was the eldest of nine children born to Arthur and Cecelia Ward (nee Kennett). His siblings were Charles, James, Thomas, Emily, Beatice, Ethel and Alice. The family lived at 12 Little Surrey Street in Southwark. Arthur Snr was a Carman and by the 1911 census, 19 year old Arthur Jnr was a Publisher’s Packer.
There is very little information about his military career. He joined the 4th Battalion of the King’s Royal Rifles and probably served in the Balkans as the 4th Battalion, which had been sent to the Western front in December 1914, were redeployed to Macedonia the following Autumn and remained there until July 1918, when they returned to France.
Arthur died of illness on 7 November 1918 at home in Britain, possibly in Oxford. He is buried in Streatham Park Cemetery.
