Ernest and his twin brother Herbert were born in Whitstable in 1881. Their parents, William and Sarah, moved to South Wimbledon and by the 1901 census were living in Tresnor Road.
Ernest married Anne Marie Williams on 15 February 1908 in St Mary’s Church and they had one child, Stanley Ernest Herbert Bamford who was born in 1910. At the 1911 census they were living in Kirkley Road, Merton Park and later moved to Trinity Road, Wimbledon.
Ernest joined the Free Masons in 1915 being initiated into the Hardware Lodge – he was an Ironmongery Salesman at the time.
Ernest joined the Kings Royal Rifles as a Rifleman and was killed in action on 4 April 1917. He is buried in Metz-en-Couture British Cemetery, France and commemorated in Holy Trinity Church, South Wimbledon.
