George was born in 1885, the 10th child (of 13) of James and Frances Croxford. As a young man James was a gun maker but after his marriage he became a green grocer.
George was born in Shepherds Bush, baptised on 11 April 1897 along with his older brother Albert and younger sister Ethel. When he left school he trained as a Butler.
James died in 1896 and George’s mother then moved around, staying with various family members.
George enlisted on 26 January 1915 and gave his address as 44 Greenside Road, Shepherds Bush. His records shown that he was just under 5ft 6ins tall, he weighed 131Lbs and his physical development was good.
He married Ellen Elizabeth White on 10 April 1915 in Holy Trinity Church, Wimbledon. Her address was 140 South Park Road, Wimbledon and she stayed there after the marriage.
George was sent to France on 17 November 1915 and died in the Casualty Clearing Station 33 on 28 December 1915. He is buried in the Bethune Town cemetery and commemorated in Holy Trinity Church
