Additional Information
Joseph was born in Wimbledon in the early part of 1893. He lived with his parents Henry and Annie (nee Goad) at 46 Hartfield Crescent between 1901 and 1911 according to census records. He had two older siblings Frederick and Dorothy and a younger sister Margaret.
On leaving school we worked in the Gas Company Showroom as a Cashier.
Joseph enlisted in Croydon and served with the 3rd/4th Battalion of the Queen’s (Royal West Surrey) Regiment.
He was killed in action on 23 August 1917.
By this time his father had died and his mother moved house a couple of times, living at 173 South Park Road and 13 Evelyn Road, Wimbledon.
Joseph was buried in Croiselles, Pas-du-Calais and is commemorated in Holy Trinity Church.
