War Diary Entry for the 12th Battalion, East Surrey Regiment. Second Lieutenant Alick Duncan was killed by a sniper on 12 March 1917, and his death is recorded in the diary for that day. It was the practice that only the death of officers were recorded in the diary, unless the death of "other ranks" was under exceptional circumstances.
