Additional Information
Born in Clapham c. 1885, Cyril was the son of William and Amelia Edwards. He appears to have been an only child. His family later moved to Acton, where William Edwards managed a furniture shop.
By 1911, Cyril was 25 and living in a boarding house at 5 Effie Road, Fulham. At the time he was employed as a shop assistant. During the second year of the war, Cyril volunteered for military service. He enlisted as a private in the 2/4th Battalion of the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry on 12 November, 1915.
After training in Northampton, Essex and Salisbury Plain, the battalion was sent to France on 24 May 1916. Cyril was discharged from duty on 31 May, 1917 due to ill health. It is not clear whether this was due to injury, shell shock or general sickness. He died four years later on 1 July 1921.
Cyril is commemorated on the War Memorial at Streatham Park Cemetery in Rowan Road, Mitcham.
